June 29. The challenge of the day (which started yesterday)
is that our chart plotter is not showing navigational buoys or depth in
Canada. Fortunately, the backup is the iPad and that is doing the trick. We had
a 30 mile trek on a rainy overcast day over to Trent Port Marina. The sun came out just about as we
arrived. It ranks right up there in the top
3 marinas we have visited (ever) and it's owned and run by the local town.
New facility with wide docks and gangways, beautiful
bathrooms, free use of laundry. There
was a happy hour at the marina facility where we met and caught up with a number of
loopers, had dinner at a local restaurant, Tomassos which was outstanding.
June 30. Friday was get some chores done around the boat and
replenish our food and 'rum rations' day.
Alice met fellow Looper Charlie from the vessel The Lower Place. (We
first thought his boat name was 'Lover Place' so we feel a lot better about
that now). Charlie determined that he
had an older and extra version of a Canada Chart chip, loaned it to us and we
are back in business.
June 31 - Canada Day -eh. (It is Canada's version of their 4th of July). Hit a farmers' market then off to the local 'Canada Day'
"eh" festivities at the local waterfront park. They had everything
from the fireman's obstacle course,
to food trucks to classic cars,
to Ontario's strongest man competition (have something like
90 seconds to toss about eight beer kegs of
increasing weight over a 13' barrier). I
hope Crossfit Ironspider and Notch brewing will start their own version at home.
The day concluded with fire works
