We have three pretty good challenges ahead of us today.
1) The Big Chute: at about 9:15, Observer was motioned forward to approach the Big
Chute. In no time they had two straps
around our keel. Captain and crew must
stay on the vessel for the ride. It is a
bit like being on an amusement ride.
Surprising there is no 'limited liability waiver' and its free (this
year). Four minutes later were on the other side splashing in the water -
Phew. The following series of photos were taken from observer as we watched two boats in front of us get loaded on.
Then it was our turn. The next series of photos were taken on Observer when we were on the Big Chute.
This pictures is looking back at it as we head on our way |
2) After our last lock on the Trent Severn, we follow by a
very narrow channel with current pushing from behind. It would be challenging
to get through here in a kayak, not to mention our boat of 13.5' beam (width).
It was narrow and the current was strong but we made it though. No photos of this because all eyes had to be on the water!
As soon as we arrived in Georgian Bay, there was a
completely different feel to our surroundings. No current, lots of room, great
views and natural beauty.
3) on our way to Victoria Harbor, there was a narrow and
winding Waubaushene Channel - turned out to be not quite as bad on a calm sunny
day as it looked on our chart. We
settled in for the night at Queens Cove Marina and celebrated our completion of
the Trent Severn.
Cheers! |
