April 9 / Day 323 / Charleston to Mclellanville / 40 NM

Monday 4/09    We left Charleston City Marina at 10 to time our travel through some skinny water ahead of us when the tide was higher.  On the way put of Charleston Harbor, we passed Fort Sumpter, where America's Civil War began.

It's 52 degrees, rainy and a bit of North wind to boot.  Island Girl led the way and we made it to our destination, Lelund Oil in McClellanville at 3:00.  It's a small quaint place in a small shrimping village.  We settled in and it was recommended that we walk down to the fish market and take advantage of being able to buy fresh seafood off the boat (at the adjacent seafood market).

Tim had met Leland McClellan (remember we are at Leland oil in McClellanville) back in Key West, a fellow Looper from Texas who we talked to at the Looper docktails on Sunday night.  Leland and his wife Karen offered to show us around town and take us to the local restaurant.  Leland grew up here and has all kinds of relatives and cousins and showed us all around this great little town and then took us to the Bent Rod for dinner.  There is nothing getting shown around McClellanville by a couple of McClellans ;).  Btw - Lelund's cousin, also named Leland, has been Mayor of this town for 41 years  & he owns the marina.

The soft shell crab was delicious!
