Wednesday 4/04 We timed our departure today to be
traveling through 'Hell Gate' (a narrow, skinny channel with very little water
at low tide). We followed Allison Leigh
through and successfully traversed another notorious shallow spot of the
ICW. As we were departing a mini-cruise
ship crossed us and traversed 'Hell Gate' in the other direction. They draw 8.5 feet; OBSERVER draws 3.5. .
.what were we worried about?
Once on the other side of Hell Gate, we began to see some really pretty waterside homes as we got closer to Savannah.

We arrived
at Thunderbolt Marina in Savanna at 12:20 today. It's a nice marina famous for delivering
Krispy Kreme donuts to your boat in the morning. There are something like 10 Looper boats
here; many that we have never met. We a leisurely afternoon. Tim went on a bike ride and Alice took Millie for a walk and did a few loads of laundry. We heard about a good little restaurant called Tubby's within walking distance, and after a good, very affordable meal, we headed back to the boat for the night.

Dining al fresco at Tubby's. The only downside were the gnats which the guy on the left is swatting away at. |

Look at the size of this tree! |
