April 11 / Day 325 / South Myrtle Beach to North Myrtle Beach / 27 NM

Wednesday 4/11 Up and off the dock a little after 8:00.  Today's lurking danger is 'the rock pile'.  It stretch of the ICW where the builders of the ICW ran into rock ledge.  In order to keep within budget they made the canal narrower than other areas.  There are rock edges and ledges and you really need to keep a great job keeping within this narrow channel.  It's recommended that you announce your boat's transiting the area in Ch 16.  You really want to avoid a barge.  We ended up meeting a sailboat coming towards us at one of the most narrow sections.  We radioed them come through before us and we would hold back.  Unfortunately, there was also a sailboat behind us that didn’t slow down and we were forced to advance sooner than we wanted.   Fortunately, we were able to pass the oncoming sailboat safely, albeit closely.  It was a bit of a “Grey Poupon” moment!

We arrived at the Myrtle Beach Yacht Club about noon and settled in for the day.
The marina staff and resident boater’s are all very friendly.  One couple, Bruce and Beverly on a 48 foot Carver called Sea Trek, came by and invited us to join them for a drink on their spacious aft deck.  Afterwards, Tim and I decided to have dinner in the Officer’s Club at the Yacht Club where we were joined by the crew of Island Girl for a great dinner and great company.
