March 5 - 12 / Day 288 - 295 / Lighthouse Point to North Palm Beach

Monday 3/05 off the dock at 8:15.  We have 35 miles and about 13 bridges.
A few of the bridges we passed under today

There is relatively light boat traffic.  We have been finding some discrepancies from what our guides show for height clearance and what the boards aside the bridges show for clearance.  When in doubt we ask and wait for an opening.  The penalty for being too conservative is a $1,000 fine for the unnecessary raising of a bridge.  We passed by West Palm Beach where have visited our friends Pam & Ed many times.

We arrived at the Old Port Cove Marina at 2:15.  It is a beautiful facility with floating docks; looks like a relatively new and well kept facility.  The staff here is equally friendly and professional.  Our stay includes a complimentary bottle of wine, free ice and coffee or soda daily from their store.  They have a nice fitness room and there is access to an Olympic distance pool just a couple miles down the road.  They have a very nice captain's lounge with adjoining office space, very clean bathrooms and a large laundry area with five washers and five dryers.  We ran into our Looper buddies Ed & Sabine of DARAK.  They are gold Loopers from France and are headed to Ft. Lauderdale to ship their boat back to Europe.  We last saw them in North Haven, Michigan.  We BBQ'd some chicken on board - not bad for a Monday.

Tuesday 3/06- visited on board Darak for a beverage and then enjoyed dinner with Ed & Sabine at the marina restaurant.  It was great to catch up with them & trade stories about our Looper adventures.  They are off for home to France in a few weeks but I think we will cross paths in the future.

Wednesday 3/07 Alice went home for a few days for some doctor visits and to gather our tax materials.  She just made it into Boston before the heart of the second Nor'easter in a week hit at home.  Tim and Millie interspersed exercise and boat chores.  Fortunately we did not get a 'honey do list' so we are free wheelin' it.
Taking a break on our walk

Thursday 3/08 Got in a nice bike ride over to Singer Island and did a Publix run as part of the return trip.

Friday 3/09 Beautiful day here.  Took Millie for a couple nice walks.  Attended to some work matters.  Finished up a project of wiping down all the interior woodwork.  It was a bit of a bear of a project but nice to have it behind me.  Alice returned about 5:00 and we had dinner at the marina bar.

Saturday 3/10 our plan today was to head north by car and check out Trawlerfest.  It's a bit of a convention for 'Trawler folks'.  We have attended them in Riviera Beach and Newport in the past.  They usually offer relevant seminars and have both new and used boats for sale as well as some different booths for services and products.  Alice was feeling a bit under the weather so Tim went solo.  It was about the same money to Uber vs. rent a car from Enterprise so I Ubered.   Only ran into one Looper - Mike of Dashaway.  I have not seen him since Ft. Meyers so it was fun to catch up with him.  I spent about 2 1/2 hours at the show and enjoyed checking everything out.  Not too long after I returned it started to rain.  We hunkered down and enjoyed dinner on board.

Sunday 3/11  Bike ride over to Singer Island, we re-provisioned at Publix.  On our second trip out we checked out Doris's Italian Market & Bakery - this place is amazing. . .its like a smaller version of Eatily.

I was talking to my sister, Maura - mentioned we were in N. Palm Beach, she replied that her friend Kim's parents Jack and Carol have a place here. . .several texts later we determined that their boat is two slips away from Observer and their condo overlooks both boats.  Small world - they stopped by to say Hello and catch up.  It was great to see them.

Monday 3/12  We probably would have left today but the weather wasn't looking that great for traveling by boat - thunderstorms were forecast.  We got a bit done like most people do on Mondays.  I had emailed Pam who has a place on Singer Island to make sure she knew about Doris's and she said she was there yesterday.  Now that we know Pam & Ed are down here earlier than expected we made plans to go out for dinner tonight.  Pam & Ed stopped by our marina and we gave Ed the tour.  We drove down the street to Seasons 52, enjoyed a great meal with awesome friends!
