October 5-6 / Day 137 - 138 / Clifton to Grand Harbor / 48.5 NM

10-05   Left the dock about 8 am with three other Loopers.  It is a beautiful October day on the Tennessee River.  If we have not described it as such, this is the nicest section of the mid western Rivers we have experienced since Chicago.  Beautiful landscape with nice homes here and there and sandy riverbanks.

It is a true recreational area.  After catching up with two more looper boats along the way, Hour Plan contacted the Pickwick lock to let them know we had six pleasure craft heading there way and how was our timing going to be?  Well, pretty good.  If we bumped up our speed a bit, we'd be right on time for the lock up. . .and we were.

Ten miles later we took a right turn off the Tennessee River and were at Grand Harbor Marina.  It's is a very large marina attached to a midrise condo complex.

There are a dozen or so Loopers here.  We grabbed the courtesy car and joined three other Looper boats at the Aqua Grill for some openair dining.  Tim had shrimp and grits and the grits were cheesy jalapeno - yeah!  Tonight was the Hunter's Moon.  I tried to capture it using the iphone, but did not have much success.

10-06   Lay day at Grand Harbor - there is some weather (edges of tropical storm / Hurricane Nate) headed our way. As nice as Grand Harbor is, there is not much to do around here.  Our next stop is Florence, Alabama.  There is quite a bit more to do there, so we have made arrangements to cut our trip here short and move up our arrival time at Florence.  We did some boat chores, did a little excursion in the dinghy to get Millie in the water,

then we motored down to a nearby marina and checked out the boats there.

We hung out there a bit after dinner and caught up with folks who were returning from their dinners out.

Grand Harbor has these swinging covered benches right along the river.
