October 2 - 3 / Day 134 - 135 / Pebble Isle in Johnsonville, TN / 66.8 NM

Mon. 10-02 left the dock about 7 with Hour Plan.  Our destination is 70 miles south on the Tennessee River.  The Tennessee is a bit more recreational and a lot more serene than the other midwestern rivers we have been on with lots of commercial traffic.

The Tennessee River is a welcome change!

Absolutely beautiful!

There were some interesting structures along this portion of the river today.  One was a partial railroad bridge that jutted out into the river and abruptly stopped.  The other was what looked like the top of the building rising up out of the water, which we later realized is what it was.  Back before they flooded the river, these structures use to be on land.  Now that the water is so low, they can be seen near shore.  The building was once used for shipping grain and after they flooded the river, they tried to destroy it, but it was so well built, it has been left to stand the test of time.

We encountered two tows and one coast guard maintenance vessel on today's trip and lots of fishing boats.  Our destination for tonight is Pebble Isle Marina, just up a channel off the river.

This boat was built by a man as his dream boat.  After he died, his wife inherited it and abandoned it at the marina.  The marina restored from a dilapidated state and placed it at the marina's road access entrance.  Very cool!

We settled into our dock space for the night.

It been a while since conditions were conducive to paddle boarding, so I did that.  There is a boat, called RA doing the Loop in a custom all electric / solar powered vessel.  The entire roof of the boat is covered in solar panels and they have three electric outboards that push it along.  See their web site PiratesoftheSun.com for more information on their boat and trip.

Notice the solar panels that completely fuel the boat

We grilled up some pork loin, Canada potatoes and asparagus on the grill for dinner. Cell service is just about nonexistent here but the satellite TV works great.

Tuesday 10-03 Lay day in Johnsonville, TN.  The dock master, Billy, prepared some piping hot, made from scratch cinnamon buns and coffee for the transients and boy did he make a lot of friends. This is one of the ways Pebble Isle makes themselves memorable, along with incredibly friendly staff and very low fuel prices.  They also have what we understand is an exceptional restaurant on site, but since this is the off season, it is only open on the weekends.

We did some boat chores, bike ride and paddle board.

As seen on the bike ride.  We are deep in civil war territory.

The highlight of the day was Hour Plan got the courtesy car from the marina and we along with Chris and Amy from "Imagine This" trekked over to Camden, TN to Smarders for a meal out.  It was a great evening.
