October 21 / Day 153 / Huntsville to Battery Hill II (anchorage) / 84 NM

Up and off the marina dock at 7 this morning.  Although we were a bit surprised there was not any fog in the marina when we departed, we hit some pretty thick fog a couple miles up river in the valley.  We dropped the speed and crept along cautiously.

Approaching the fog

Golden getting enveloped by the fog

Getting denser

We went through the Guntersville lock without a hitch or delay.

From the back of the lock looking forward.  There were only two operational bollard pins.

Golden and Nellie Mae rafted up together in the lock

We passed some beautiful scenery and pretty houses.

I 'm not sure you can see this, but there is an opening in the middle of this rock at the water line.  It is a cave that is home to 1000s of bats.  They come out at dusk to feed and return to the cave at dawn.  Fortunately, we passed by mid day.

Two boat houses belonging to the same property

Check out the stairway with the tram to the left.

Interesting tow tied up to an abandoned dock on an island

And some not so beautiful scenery:

Nuclear Power Plant

After a 10 hour day (against about a 2 knot current) we arrived in our anchorage for the night - Battery Hill II.
From our anchorage looking back at Nellie Mae, Golden and Heaven to Betsy

Sunset

Did not really find a great spot to walk Millie. . . but we managed.  We grilled up some pork tenderloin and hit the sack early.
