January 5-6 / Day 229 - 230 / Legacy Harbour Marina to Sanibel Island

1/05 Friday - We are on the move again!  This morning, we called the Sanibel Marina to check whether their situation had improved and it had.  The dock master encouraged us to make our way over.  About 12:30 we cast off our lines at Legacy Harbor Marina headed over to City of Ft. Meyers Marina to top off our diesel tanks and headed down the river towards Sanibel.  A couple hours later we tried contacting the marina on the VHF for our slip assignment only to find the slip had a boat in it.  Apparently some guy in a run about just pulled in, went to the beach and left his boat in fate's hands.  The marina folks towed the offender over to the fuel dock and we backed right in.  This marina is owned by the same folks who own Ireland Boat Sales - who are a dealer for Back Cove Yachts and there are lots of them in this marina.  We had an early dinner at Grandma Dots restaurant (right at the marina); it was a great meal.
Good bye Legacy.  We truly loved our stay!

1/06 Saturday The folks at the marina dropped off hot blueberry muffins and a newspaper right to our boat at 7:15 am; that's a nice perk.  We took Millie for a walk out to the Sanibel Lighthouse; its cool, but a sunny day.  Later, we set out on our bikes in search of the place Alice stayed on a couple family vacations in Sanibel.  Thanks to Chauncey's (Alice's Mom) ability to recall and Google, we found it. Sanibel has a great bike trail system around the island.  Tim did a solo ride over to the Captiva end of the island.  We had a nice home cooked meal aboard and prepped for our passage tomorrow.

Sanibel is known rot it's beautiful beaches teeming with shells

This is where Alice's family would vacation back in the 70s

One vacation, there wasn't enough room in the condo so Alice, her sister Plummy and one of Plummy's friends stayed at the Kona Kai.
Tim rode from Sanibel on the right side of this frame out to the blue dot on the left.

One of the many bike trails throughout Sanibel
