December 1 - 2 / Day 194 - 195 / Pink Shells Marina to Salty Sam's Marina

Friday -  We were greeted this morning by our friends on Golden who had come down to Fort Myers Beach from Fort Myers to pick up a mooring in the mooring field for the weekend and watch the boat parade Saturday night.

We have reservations at Salty Sam's Marina for the same time frame so we left Pink Shell Marina at 1:30 and made the short hop down the river to Salty Sam's.
Fort Myers Beach has a large fishing presence ...
Salty Sam's Marina
This is a real center of activity for the area with two restaurant, rental boats, Pirate Cruise and Key West Express, this place attracts a lot of folks on a nice day.  Golden's rental mooring is right off our marina with prime viewing of the parade tomorrow night.

A taste of things to come!  The boat on the right is getting ready to participate in the parade tomorrow night.  They have a large inflatable dolphin being led by Santa in a sleigh.

We hosted Golden for docktails and then we all grabbed dinner at the marina restaurant.
Out table for dinner was outside on the porch.  This was our view.

A little bit later

This pirate walked by us as we were finishing up.

Saturday - we met up with the crew of Golden and toured around the water parameter of San Carlos Island in our dinghy.  These have been Paige and Mike's home waters for 12 years so we had a fabulous time learning all about the area.  We checked out the mangroves and waterfront homes - always something to see.

The hi-light of the day was the Holiday Boat parade.  Alice made dinner and brought it out to Golden who had a prime viewing spot.  It was a beautiful night for the event (no wind or waves and there was a beautiful super moon out). We watched the start of the parade with some 25 or so boats, had dinner and then watched them again as the parade returned to the main harbor.  It was a great event; we are so glad we delayed our trip to Ft. Meyers to enjoy this night.  When we returned to the marina, we were invited for a night cap aboard Thistle whose slip was right in the thick of the after party.  Such fun!

There must have been a 1/2 dozen Elvis impersonators on this boat

Even dinghies got in the act

Nativity scene

This pontoon boat was amazing.  It had a large Christmas Tree made of LED lights on the bow that changes designs every few seconds

The same pontoon boat with a the lights lit like a Christmas tree

We liked the shark on the bow

This is a bit hard to see , but it is the boat with the inflated dolphin on the bow.  You can see that added lighted swimming dolphins all along the rails

Another decorated pontoon boat
