May 17 - 19 / Day 361 - 363 / Stamford to Mystic

Thursday 5/17.  Up and off the dock at 6:30.  The bad news is that it is cool, raining and foggy.  The great news is that we have very light winds and flat seas.  Today is the best travel day ahead for a few so we want to make it some where we will enjoy hanging out for a few days.  Our destination is Mystic, CT.  We actually had a pretty good run there til we got to the entrance channel (where it is tight maneuvering and our visibility from heavy fog went down to less than 50'.  To make matters more challenging there was current in the channel so we had to make speed (headway) while figuring out where we were. We made it through this narrow stretch and visibility improved and we were docked at Fort Rachel Marina by 4:00.  We got ourselves and OBSERVER squared away and took Millie for a walk about.  We saw a great place for dinner - the Oyster Club.  Alice went in to get a table and Tim took Millie back to the boat.  We had a delicious meal there - yum.

Great meal!

Friday 5/18 - As expected not a very good travel day today so we stayed put.  It was pretty low key.  We did some exploring around town and a little bit of shopping.  Chicken parm. on board for dinner - a very relaxing day.

Fresh flowers in the women's head at the marina (I have it on good authority that there were fresh flowers in the men's head, as well)

Saturday 5/19.  It's raining and cool here and winds are not conducive to continue our travel north.  The hi-light of the day was a visit to the Mystic Seaport Museum.  It was a great day to tour their exhibits - their collections of wooden boats is second to none.  No visit to Mystic Seaport would be complete without a thorough inspection and purchases at their bookstore.  In an effort to save some of our on board provisions we dawned our rain gear and walked down to the Tavern at the Daniel Parker Inn for a really nice dinner.
